Interview: The Blushes

“Hi! We’re THE BLUSHES, 3 BFF’s [Katie Jayne Earl, Katy Rose, Lori Dorfman} from Los Angeles, CA who have set out to inject joy, glitter, and hardcore girliness into the Alt-Rock scene. We’re making music that’s fun to play and fun to listen to!”

What inspires your music?

We're inspired by making our own rules. We're inspired by the women in our lives. We're inspired by in-sourcing our own authority and creating a scene and an environment that honors our authenticity and OUR vision. We're inspired to have a career where OUR vision is executed. We're inspired by the sounds of our hometown of Los Angeles, our history as childhood performers, laughter, and the on-going battle to take down the patriarchy.

Who are some of your influences?

We are influenced by everything from 60’s girl groups, the 90’s Riot Grrrl movement, The Spice Girls, to “That Thing You Do.” We aspire to make music that is FUN and carries a message that is authentic to us as independent, strong women. We are also influenced by the on-going battle to take down the patriarchy :)

What are some of your favorite memories from your career?

My favorite memory is when we packed a van and drove to Phoenix to play a record store opening. We weren't ready, but we did it anyway. Also, we made curry and started the tradition of family dinners - Lori

My favorite memory was when we booked and performed our very first headlining show. We filled the room with our friends and family, who genuinely had no clue what to expect and were probably all a little nervous we were gonna suck, but we didn't, and they were all proud of us. Our loved ones showed up and showered us with love, and we were on a high for like, 3 weeks after that. - Katie

My favorite memory is that we started as a book club but because we all have ADHD we ended up writing a song that became our first single 'Me Time'. -Katy Rose

Which of your songs is your favorite?

We love all our songs, sorry.

Who are some of the collaborators who helped you create your favorite works?

We don't collaborate with other songwriters, we write all of our own music. Josh Hogan (The Mowgli's, Modern Original) is our producer and he's the best. He always works to execute OUR vision and has really good ideas that work with our sound and vibe. @joshuajonmichael

What are you most excited to bring to your fans next?

We spent the whole summer recording music we wrote last year, and we are really stoked to share each song. Our current plan is to roll out a single a month all year while we continue writing, recording and playing shows.

What are your goals for the next year?

We just wanna keep doing our thing, keep making music we're proud of, keep recording and keep playing bigger and bigger shows. We dream of getting a great supporting slot on a tour that really aligns with us. We are also always working on ourselves and plan to continue on those personal journeys - no matter what.

How can your fans and our readers best support you right now?

Become a monthly listener on Spotify, follow us on Instagram and TikTok, stream our music, tell your friends, buy our merchandise, and come to our shows. We really appreciate it, thanks.
