Interview: The Risin’ Sun
The Risin’ Sun is a Mexican Rock band. Over their now 12 years of career, they’ve been one of the most important references for Mexican Underground music, especially the Garage/Psych scene. They have under their belt multiple national and international tours, festivals and fans. They have released 3 LP’s in their career, working with great names in the industry like Wayne Kramer (MC5), Gordon Raphael (The Strokes), etc. Fiery and explosive music is guaranteed; one of the best live acts in Mexico, a must-see.

What led to The Risin’ Sun becoming a band?
Love for music! It wasn’t a planned decision; life put us here.
What inspires your music?
Universal human emotions mixed with the craziness of today’s world, especially living in such an intense and surreal city like Mexico City.
Who are some of your influences?
Maybe at first, in our first years, we were very heavily influenced by 60’s psychedelic rock and blues. We’ve been playing for over a decade now, so influences are very spread with only one rule: Music that makes us feel good.
What are some of your favorite memories from your career?
Sharing experiences with your best friends all throughout the world with your music, knowing new like-minded misfits on the road. Discovering life through music.
What have been some of the greatest challenges of your career?
Trying to do what we do with our own tools and very limited resources would be the biggest challenge; we are very DIY, and we do not play the type of music that will make it to the Top 40. But being the biggest challenge, it’s also the best pleasure to know we don’t owe anybody and will never compromise for executive reasons.
Which of your songs/eps or albums is your favorite? Why is it your favorite?
Each one is very special and means to us a defining moment in our lives. We always try to make the next release the best release, so I guess we would choose our new songs as our favorite songs.
What are you most excited to bring to your fans in the next year?
New music!!! Touring at last!!
What are your goals for this upcoming year?
Having a new EP, doing a national Mexican tour, then releasing a collection of songs from our 12-year tenure. After that, we are trying to aim or touring Europe and maybe the US.
How can your fans best support you right now?
Merch and Bandcamp would definitely be the best. Streaming is cool for letting people know your music, but once they’re “official” fans, straight donations on Bandcamp and merch purchases would be the best way to support us and our plans.
