Interview: Isabella Diaz
Isabella Diaz is a pop singer, songwriter, producer, and independent artist based in Tampa, FL. A lifelong lover of the arts, she discovered her passion for songwriting early on and began producing original music in 2019. By September 2020, she had written, produced, and recorded her first single from her home studio. Since then, Isabella has released a series of pop tracks influenced by R&B and alternative sounds, marked by her signature use of atmospheric synths and densely layered vocal harmonies. After years of dedication, experimentation, and refining her craft, she released her debut album, Trapped In Time, in June 2024—a project that reflects her growth, vision, and creative drive.
What inspires your music?
My lyrics are mostly inspired by my own feelings during times when words alone don't suffice. Whether I'm feeling excitement or sorrow, I will often spend time in my home studio either jamming on the piano/guitar or producing a new track, then adding lyrics. Songwriting is a form of communication for me. I hope that my music can reach others and offer the same comfort that others' music provides to me.
Who are some of your influences?
My biggest inspirations are Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. However, many artists influence various aspects of my music. To name a few: Troye Sivan, Billie Eilish, SZA, Gracie Abrams, Madonna, Tate McRae, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, and Rihanna.
What are some of your favorite memories from your career?
I remember performing my song "Disguise” back when it was unreleased. This was an outdoor performance, and as I was singing, the breeze picked up, and it started to rain! Typical in Florida. I just kept on singing, and many people stayed through the entire performance. There was no lightning, just a summertime shower that went perfectly with the vibe of the song. People continued to listen to the music. It was a special moment for sure.
I also have to mention my album release performance last June. This was definitely a highlight. So many people came to the show to support me during this important milestone during my life and career. There were even surprise appearances by fans, friends, and family members who traveled to be there. Love filled the room as I performed my album.
Which of your projects do you love the most?
My favorite song of mine is "Cologne". It's bubbly, fun, and flirty. It also does a great job of representing my sound as an artist. What I'm most proud of, though, is my album, "Trapped In Time." I began working on this project in 2019, so it was five years in the making. I'd always dreamt of making an album, and I wanted to present my best work. There was fine-tuning and rerecording until everything fell into place. Ultimately, 'Trapped In Time' represents my journey, my growth, and my dedication to creating something truly meaningful.
Who are some of the collaborators who helped you create your favorite works?
I had the pleasure of collaborating with Christian "Wicked" Wicht on my first three singles. He’s a talented and passionate mixing engineer, and I’m grateful to have him as a mentor.
I've also collaborated with Steven Clark, an incredible mixing
and recording engineer who has mixed and mastered several of my songs. He is always open to my creative feedback and requests.
What are you most excited to bring to your fans next?
The past two years were all about finalizing and releasing my debut album. "Trapped In Time" mainly reflects my transition from a teenager to an adult. It's also about self-growth and acceptance. This year, I'm feeling open to change and newness. Fans can look forward to hearing music about new beginnings. Also, some of my earlier music is a bit filtered, lyrically speaking. I look forward to incorporating more rawness and truth in my songs. After all, I make music to help others feel connected and understood.
What are your goals for this upcoming year?
My goal is to perform more frequently. I want to connect with real people, not just online but in person and on stage, where deeper connections can be made.
How can your fans and our readers best support you right now?
Please continue to stream "Wannabe" and "Cologne", as well as my album, "Trapped In Time". All of my music is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and all streaming platforms. I would also love to see additional views on my music videos, available on my YouTube channel. I'm working on setting up a merch store. In the meantime, you can email isabelladiazstore@gmail.com if you are interested in purchasing CDs and T-shirts. Any support is appreciated!
