Interview: Crystal Tides
Crystal Tides are a beach pop band based on the South Coast of England who take influence from classic noughties guitar riffs and modern feel-good pop melodies. The indie five-piece have recently signed a deal with Modern Sky UK & Run On Records.
Crystal Tides stock on the indie scene has grown exponentially over their last few releases. The band have had a string of successful releases. The band have received multiple Radio 1 plays from Gemma Bradley & Nels Hylton. They've also achieved playlisting on Radio X, Amazing Radio, XS Manchester, and the Student Music Network. The band built further support in 2022 after being featured on E4’s Made In Chelsea, BT Sport’s Champions League Coverage & Goals Score programmes. This followed the success with appearances on BBC 5 Live (With Scott Mills & Chris Stark) & BBC South Today.

What led to you becoming a band?
Being bored with regular boring old life. Music is fun. We thought why not have a go at enjoying your job.
What inspires your music?
Everyone else's music…for legal and copyright reasons this is a very funny joke and also untrue…probably.
However we do use a lot of stories and experiences from our own sad little lives because it's easier to write stories that already exist and we are lazy.
Who are some of your influences?
Catfish and the bottlemen, The Killers, Two Door Cinema Club, The Wombats.
Basically any huge indie banger take your pick.
Oo and the Pigeon Detectives and The Vaccines because they don't get enough praise. Absolute lads.
What are some of your favorite memories from your career?
We've had several mega gigs and some very awful Airbnbs but by far our best moments have always come out with hometown shows in Portsmouth. Don't think anything can beat your hometown.
Pompey babey.
What have been some of the greatest challenges of your career?
Mostly ourselves. Being in a band is tough. Trying to make the biggest dream in your life a reality, whilst working full time and balancing life, money, pets and partners can quite easily become a boiling pot.
However when you overcome struggles and challenges you come out a far stronger band and also bunch of friends.
Sometimes we even begin to like eachother, not for long though…we are all horrible.
Which of your songs/eps or albums is your favorite? Why is it your favorite?
It's like being asked to pick your favourite child.
Well obviously there are favourites but if we tell everyone then the other songs will get sad.
Who are some of the collaborators who helped you create your favorite work?
David Evans is our wonderful producer and songwriting partner without whom we wouldn't be half the band that we are today.
Lastly, Paul over at Old Chapel Studios in Emsworth. Who have been so accommodating to us over the years and have been instrumental (hahahah we're so funny) to the shaping of our sound.
What are you most excited to bring to your fans in the next year?
New music babbbeeeeyyyy.
What are your goals for this upcoming year?
Become famous and quit all normie jobs then win the lottery.
Some say we should aim lower but we say to you, shoot for your dreams because if you miss something else might happen and also you might win the lottery.
How can your fans best support you right now?
The best thing you can do for us right now is come and see us live!! Recorded music is one thing but come to a show and we can show you exactly what we want the music to feel like.
