Interview: J. Jeaux
J. Jeaux is a singer-songwriter, producer, and composer. He released his debut single ‘More Than Enough’ in 2022. He is known for his evocative blend of R&B singer-songwriter nature, analog/organic textures and a mixture of multiple grooves.
As a multi-instrumentalist, J. Jeaux has also carved his way as a composer for video games and media.
Preview J. Jeaux’s Latest Single “More Than Enough”
What led to you becoming an artist?
There’s something about the creative process of making music that feels quite unique and fulfilling. Feels a lot like juxtaposing the habitual flow state with the ever-changing ingredients of contexts or ideas.
It’s just so much fun and the outcome turns out different every time.
What inspires your music?
The complexities of human interactions that result in heartwarming or heartbreaking stories.
Who are some of your influences?
Frank Ocean has been a huge inspiration along with Björk, Jorja Smith, Sting, Bob Dylan have all left a grain of inspiration throughout the years.
What are some of your favorite memories from your career?
That’s a tough one. I like most of the memories of my career; they remind me of the people and friends who helped me one way or another.
There’s still a long way to go so I’ll keep that question in mind for the near future.
What have been some of the greatest challenges of your career?
I’d say developing your own characteristic sound as a musician is one of the most challenging goals to achieve. I personally feel close to reaching my own although I wouldn't wanna be too close either; as I believe our sound should keep evolving.
Kind of like the feeling comfortable out of your comfort zone idea.
What was the creation process like for your newest release “More Than Enough”?
At first it felt like crafting an oasis in the middle of the desert, everything was coming along nicely with the arrangement and instrumentation, I had a vibe already. But by the time I had to write the lyrics I felt as if I had to dig out every grain of sand in search of a hidden treasure, I had nothing in mind. After writing a lot of notes I was able to distill a story and finally all that time invested paid off. Afterwards it felt like walking downhill.
What are you most excited to bring to your fans in the next year?
Definitely all the new songs I’ll be releasing are what I’m most excited about, along with all the future collaborations that will be taking place. You could say shaping this project is what it’s all going to be about.
What are your goals for this upcoming year?
I’m very excited about playing live shows and finishing writing all of the upcoming singles; but making every step of the process as deliberate as possible. Which I yet have to master.
