Review: MeMe Myatt "No Rush"

MeMe Myatt’s new release “No Rush” is a smooth track featuring modern R&B elements and jazz-inspired vocals. As she gushes about a new romantic interest, the message of the song stresses the importance of not rushing the process of falling into a close bond with a partner. The production is tight with a bouncy kick, relaxed electric piano, and MeMe’s skillful and explorative vocals.

LA-based singer-songwriter, MeMe Myatt has built a reputation not only as a musical artist who masterfully intersects both style and substance in her vocal performances and original compositions but also through her astute, self-assured interpretations of classic tunes by legendary artists who influenced her.

The Inglewood-raised songstress' professional experience began at 16 when she performed regularly in and around Southern California, where she was formally trained and active in talent pageants and vocal competitions. In Boston, where she graduated from its prestigious Berklee College of Music, MeMe furthered her artistry as a vocal principal, music education major, and performer and songwriter for various bands, including Mélange, a multi-genre musical group, and her own highly praised R&B/Soul & Classic Rock ensemble, Melissa Myatt & the Chase, which would earn a loyal following throughout the city. In culmination of her graduating cum laude, MeMe was chosen to grace the stage with the likes of Carole King, Annie Lennox, and Willie Nelson for Berklee's 2013 Commencement Concert.

In addition to leaving a lasting imprint with her talents domestically, MeMe also left her mark abroad. While in Athens, Greece, MeMe appeared to be right at home serving as lead and background singer of On Stage – one of Athens only classic soul bands – mesmerizing Mediterranean audiences with the seamless, sultry, universal appeal of her vocal talents.

Of one of the many standout tracks on MeMe’s 2011 EP Defined, Funk Gumbo Radio’s Howard Hobson wrote, “I've listened to it ten times already… This song is the one reason why we have to start another station devoted to R&B and Neo-soul. It really is a great song.” Her die-hard fans worldwide will all agree it’s what MeMe does best: writing and singing really great songs!
